The Art of Kenjutsu

Kenjutsu is a samurai art that evolved in Japan. Learning Kenjutsu, is a unique wish you must include in your bucket list 2019. Kenjutsu was formed around 15th Century, to train Samurai warriors. Later, it became a part of the Ninja society. Kenjutsu is a process to learn the skill of sword-fighting. It includes fighting with the swords. The sword used in this battle is popularly known as Katana.

How to learn Kenjutsu?
There are many institutes which train you in the form of Kenjutsu. You can practice Kenjutsu alone, or with a partner. If you train yourself alone, it would help you in developing physically and also, to improve yourself in a better way. Your body will become more agile and stronger than before. If you put your dedication and loyalty towards learning Kenjutsu, you would become the master in couple of years. The master of Kenjutsu is known as Kenjutsuka. You have to change your lifestyle entirely and adapt into a more disciplined way of living.

To learn Kenjutsu, you require a professional mentor who would train you. But, if you are unable to get hold of an instructor in your locality, you can avail for other options too. You have to train yourself by watching videos or reading books about Kenjutsu. You would be able to learn the art form without any hurry or any schedules.

Swords used in Kenjutsu
The most important sword that is needed for Kenjutsu is Katana, as mentioned earlier. Katana is also used in different martial arts, other than Kenjutsu. The art of properly managing the sword with respect is called as Teito. But, you must not use Katana early in your training. You might end up hurting yourself. Firstly, you have to use a wooden sword, namely bokkeh to train yourself. But, if you are uncomfortable with wooden swords, you might also purchase yourself a sword of bamboo which is covered by leather, known as Shinai. But, you should keep in mind, to learn Kenjutsu is not just about fulfilling one wish of your bucket list, it is also a journey to find your inner self and achieve strength, mentally and physically.

Safety comes first
You need to be very careful while handling the swords and fighting the battle. Though bokkeh is comparatively safer than the other swords, it still can break your bones, if not used properly. First, you need to learn about the sword, in detail. Then, you need to train yourself properly in holding the sword, so as not to get injured. Once you are comfortable with the sword, it becomes your best ally, throughout your life.

Kenjutsu is not an easy martial arts to learn quickly. To learn Kenjutsu, your mind needs to be cleared of each and every thought. You don’t have to become religious to learn the art form, but all you need to have is a dedicated willingness to change for the better. You need to be your biggest critic and only then, you would be able to learn Kenjutsu.
